Recent torrential rain has left 26,000 homeless in Burkina Faso, one of the world’s poorest nations, notes Caritas Internationalis, the international consortium of Catholic relief and development agencies. Caritas has increased its appeal on behalf of the nation by $290,000 to help the flood victims.

12% of the nation’s 13.4 million people are Catholic, according to Vatican statistics; some 50% are Muslim, while nearly 40% adhere to indigenous beliefs.
